Why do i need quicktime player? - CNET Computer newbies Forums

Some video's want me to download quicktime to play them. I have the vlc media player,i thought that it played quicktime video's. I don't use apple so why is it alot of video's only use quicktime to play them? I just feel that i have to have to many differ
